Familiar, unfamiliar
Humans are quick to move closer to the familiar and distance themselves from the unfamiliar or unknown. They live among family members, colleagues, and friends, than among strangers. And they love to hunt in familiar territory, and use familiar tactics to solve problems. Surprisingly, they often mess themselves up in familiar situations. The reason is that humans are less calculating and more attached when they encounter the familiar, repeat a tactic that has failed before, or when they are implementing the recommendations of an expert more than once.
However, humans do better in unfamiliar areas, where the rules aren't necessarily complex, but, because the unfamiliar compels them to act rationally.
If only humans can approach the familiar with the same measure of detachment as they do the unfamiliar, if they can put aside their past victories and approach every encounter with as much rationality and cold eyes, human would have more successes than failures.
